Hey friends,
It’s been a bit of a time. I just wanted to say hello and thank you for being in my life, again. We never really know what’s around the corner, so it is never wasted to say these things out loud.
Cooking Experiments
I rarely post photos of my cooking experiments anymore. But here’s one: a red Thai curry I made recently.
I decided to make the paste from scratch, even though I didn’t have all the ingredients. I swapped coconut milk for almond milk, and it still turned out pretty tasty. A vegetable curry born of improvisation — like so much of life.
Reflections on Platforms
Lately I’ve been thinking about how I use these platforms.
I have accounts here and there - Facebook, BlueSky, LinkedIn. I dip in and out. Instagram has always been my playful Wabi Sabi space, but Threads feels lighter, even fun.
I joined social platforms as a surrealist play space and a way to connect with friends and family. They do sometimes help with work, but mostly they’re communication testing grounds: “this works, this doesn’t.” I’m still here, but also happy to talk on WhatsApp, Messenger, or Zoom if anyone prefers.
Memory Floods and ADHD
A couple of weeks ago I received a confirmed ADHD diagnosis. The assessor also agreed with what I’ve long suspected — that I carry autism traits.
Even though I thought I knew, it still feels different now. Like someone stamped it official: “Yes. This is real.” And suddenly my brain opened the floodgates, a massive memory review, cycling through patterns old and new.
It’s reminding me of my shutdowns. Reminding me how I return to sharing conversation. Why I sometimes call just to only say 'hi'. Why I write posts like this.
Knowledge, Emotion, and Community
I’ve been deep diving into how we access knowledge over time, and how much of what we consume in digital spaces is shaped by a tiny fraction of human knowing.
The emotions stirred up on these platforms can feel amplified, outsized. As if we’re informed, when really we’re swimming in a narrow stream.
But face-to-face, in real community, sharing stories and food and presence? That’s where knowledge roots itself. That’s where nourishment happens.
Gratitude and Love
So, thank you, fam and friends. Thank you for patience, for understanding, for including me in your circles.
I believe this with my whole being:
Love is the answer.
That includes the love and care we give ourselves.
Much love and many blessings,
mjl
